In our continuing effort to
get to know our members, the President asked Robert Yarnell to give a brief
self-introduction.
John Skillman gave a brief
report on the recent Florida Board of Management meeting. He’ll be attending
the Last Naval Battle celebration and invited others to join him.
The President and members
introduced the guests.
The minutes of the January
meeting were approved.
The secretary related some
emails from members that were unable to attend. Our ROTC program will begin in
earnest next month. Details for the April luncheon were provided and the
secretary asked for volunteers to help with making the award presentations at
the high schools.
The President asked the
secretary to provide some further explanation of the Chapter Challenge Contest
run by the Florida Society which he provided.
Treasurer Chuck Copeland
reported a checking account balance of $2,548.56 and cash of $136.88 for a
total of $2,685.44.
On behalf of the Chapter
Color Guard, Alan announced that the group will be presenting the colors at the
March 12th C.A.R. State Annual Meeting to be held in
Alan Bell, the chapter
registrar, reported on the status of our prospective members. We have 2
membership applications pending at national. A third prospect is nearly complete
as are nearly a dozen supplemental applications
Under old business, Terrell Sessums researched the issue of liability insurance and
sent his findings to the President. Based on this information, the chapter
decided that such insurance was not necessary.
Chuck Copeland, as
Treasurer, requested that the chapter books be audited. The President asked for
a volunteer.
The meeting recessed for

The President then presented
awards to
The President then called on
Bob Yarnell, the Vice President, to introduce our speaker Ken Nichol. Ken is a
member of the St. Petersburg Chapter of the SAR and spoke on the Declaration of
Independence. The speaker began by detailing the major events leading up to the
Declaration. A handout detailed twenty-eight such events which Mr. Nichol
explained. He then gave a brief overview of the Declaration and concluded with
a few significant events that occurred after the Declaration was signed.
John Skillman won the 50/50.
He donated his share to the treasury which was thus enriched by $27.00. John
Skillman provided three copies of the “Patriots of the American Revolution”
magazine which were given to three additional attendees whose tickets were
selected.
The President led the
recessional, Jack Bolen gave the benediction, and the meeting adjourned at
