Tampa Chapter

Sons of the American Revolution

Meeting Notice, December 2007

The next meeting of the Tampa Chapter will be held on December 15th in the private meeting room of the Piccadilly Cafeteria, located at 11810 Dale Mabry Highway North, Tampa, Florida (813-963-1660). Meetings begin at noon but members arrive as early as 11:30 for a time of camaraderie.

Our program this month will be provided by the Fort Brooke chapter of the Children of the American Revolution. You may recall this is an annual event for us. Typically the youth tell us about the current CAR state project. Over the years we’ve watched a number of the CAR members grow and mature. Two of their members have become state CAR presidents.

I trust you’ll make every effort to attend. The company and conversation alone will make the trip worthwhile.

Kevin Yarnell

Secretary, Tampa Chapter

January Meeting Date Changed

In order to avoid a conflict with the Florida Society Winter Board of Management meeting, we will hold our January 2008 meeting on Jan. 26th. The Florida Society president, Grant Wallin, Jr., will be on hand to install our new officers and speak to the members.

Email addresses needed

We’d like to be good stewards of our treasury funds and so beginning in January would like to email these monthly notices. Would you be so kind as to send an email to kayarnell@hotmail.com giving an email you’d like us to use? Thanks very much!

The secretary has asked the current Florida Society President, Grant Wallin to attend our January meeting so that he might install the officers and speak to the members. Our usual date, the third Saturday, conflicts with the State Society’s Winter Board of Management meeting. The membership agreed to move the January meeting to the 4th Saturday.

The meeting recessed for lunch.

Following lunch the President reconvened meeting. He introduced our Law Enforcement honoree, Jeff Jones of the Hillsborough County Sheriffs office. He’s been a member of the sheriff’s office for 10 years and currently works in the traffic division.

He established a coordinated effort with the Florida Department of Corrections and the probations office to target those who are not legally allowed to drive by being present when those on probation are required to report. Those that show up by driving themselves are arrested by officers in unmarked cars.

Officer Jones answered several questions from the members. In response to one, the officer related the details of a shooting incident last month that involved the death of a sheriff.

The president presented the Law Enforcement commendation Medal to Officer Jones.

The president welcomed John Sessums into the chapter’s membership and presented him with his membership certificate and rosette.

President Neuguard led the recessional. Chaplain Lloyd gave the benediction. The meeting adjourned at 1:23 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Kevin Yarnell, Chapter Secretary
